Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...

So, it's been a while. I'm still here and SWMBO is still up the duff - all 34 weeks and 2 days of it. Oh what fun we're having. When we first started seeing SWMBO's obstetrician, we were told that the first trimester is for shitting yourself at every twitch and test result, the second trimester is for 'bonding with baby and the third is for figuring out how to get the little bugger out. We now know the truth...

The first trimester is for shitting yourself at every twitch and test result, the second is for hemorrhaging cash, the third is for dealing with a heavily pregnant woman (contrary to what some woman might want, bubs is coming out in one of two ways - there's no third option!).

Unfortunately, we've been busy buying things over the last couple of months and I've kinda neglected this blog. I get the feeling that that's about to change though as although what I'm going through isn't quite the same as SWMBO, we both need a release and telling you all what's going on from my point of view is mine.

So anyway, what's been going on with us? Well, SWMBO has been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and it also seems that her pelvis isn't playing nicely so after having a pretty uneventful pregnancy so far (annoying bleeding problems in the early weeks aside) it looks like the long final weeks will be dragging.

If you haven't figured it out, gestational diabetes is a form of diabetes experienced by pregnant women and their husbands. No really, I do get to experience it - particularly after stuffing my fat face with an entire bag of giant fruchocs while watching the TV next to SWMBO who was eating some carrot sticks. She literally didn't speak to me for two days after that, entirely undeserved I think but that's just me.

Fortunately, we live in South Australia so the first protocol for dealing with gestational diabetes (after sorting out your diet) is pills - apparently doctors in other states will generally default to insulin injections if managing the diabetes through diet doesn't work. The pills can have some side effects, the main one of which is SWMBO doesn't have to inject herself with insulin - this made us a bit happy. When I say us I mean SWMBO, mainly.

The pelvis problems are a whole other post by themselves, just let it be said that having your wife scream in pain quite loudly just before crying out "for god's sake please stop" isn't something you want the neighbours to hear when you have the back door open on a hot day...

P.S. The obstetrician was right about bonding with baby, if by bonding she meant that I'd 'spoon' with SWMBO in bed, put my arm around her bump and have the little bugger kick at my arm until I removed it!
